How to Clear a Paper Jam on a Canon Inkjet Printer

For many people, maintaining a Canon Inkjet Printer in the home or office can be expensive and frustrating. There are numerous error messages and they always come at inconvenient times. Many Canon printers today have LCD monitors to help us understand problems that arise, however, many inkjet printers do not come with such monitors. Most of us do not read the Canon Inkjet Printer manuals thoroughly and have little to no idea what the blinking error light means. Paper jams are among the most common problem with Canon Inkjet Printers. Follow these instructions to learn how to clear a paper jam on a Canon Inkjet Printer:

Protect yourself from shock. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the Canon Inkjet Printer. This is an important step when working inside ANY electronic device.

Unhinge the back access panel of the printer. It seems repetitive to say this, but this door will be in the BACK of the printer.

Look through the opened back panel and look for paper. Remove any and all paper you find jammed there.

Close the back access panel. Make sure that it latches into place and looks the same way that it did before you opened it.

Find the front or top access panel. This is the panel you would lift to change ink cartridges. Open this access panel. If the carriage that holds the ink cartridges moves, then you forgot to unplug the printer, go back and do that now. Look for paper that may be jammed in this area of the printer.

Remove any paper you find jammed here. When pulling from the front there will be resistance from the paper feeder. Pull slowly or the paper will rip and create a more stressful problem.

Close the front access panel. Make sure that it falls or latches back in place. It should look the same way that it did before you opened it.

Plug the printer's power cord into the wall outlet, and attempt to print again. If the printer prints the job, then you have successfully removed the paper jam.

How to Troubleshoot a Canon MP530 Scanner

You may encounter a number of problems while scanning, such as a slow scan speed, poor scan quality or the scanner not scanning at all. The Canon MP530 is an all-in-one printer that prints, faxes and scans. You can troubleshoot a number of scanning problems with the MP530 yourself and get back to quality scanning

Scanner Won’t Scan

Restart the computer if it doesn’t recognize the scanner.

Insert the setup CD and install the “ScanGear MP” software in case the scanner driver is not installed.

Select “Canon MP530” as the source in the software application you are using.

Reattach the USB cable and ensure the cable is not longer than 9.8 feet if an error message appears and the “ScanGear MP" window does not open. Attach the cable to another USB port on your computer if it still doesn’t scan.

Poor Scan Quality

Click the “Advanced Mode” tab in the “ScanGear MP” window and increase the scan resolution in the “Output Settings" box if the scan is grainy.

Clean the scanner to improve the scan quality. Wipe the glass, the inner side of the document cover (the white area on the inside of the lid), the transparent sheet to the left of the glass and the inner side of the automatic document feeder to the left of the inner side of the document cover with a clean, soft cloth moistened with water. Wipe it dry with a different clean, dry cloth.

Set the original to scan with a specific function if the quality of the original is poor. On the “Advanced Mode” tab of the “ScanGear MP” box, select one of the following from the “Image Settings” area: “Reduce Dust and Scratches,” “Fading Correction” or “Grain Correction.”

Slow Scan

Click the “Advanced Mode” tab in the “ScanGear MP” box and set the output resolution to “75 dpi” to view your image on the monitor.

Set the output resolution higher for the actual scan.

Click the “Advanced Mode” tab and verify that “Reduce Dust and Scratches,” “Fading Correction” and “Descreen” in the “Image Settings” section are all set to “Off.”

Multiscan or Multicrop Function Issues

1.       Verify there is four-tenths of an inch between the edge of the glass and the original.

2.      Leave at least four-tenths of an inch between originals when you use the multiscan function.

3.      Scan 10 or fewer originals during multiscanning.

4.      Scan rectangular photos of one inch or greater.

5.      Scan each item individually if the software you use does not support multiple image scanning.

Canon MX700 Scanner & Windows 7 Problems

Canon released the PIXMA MX700 Office-All-In-One printer, scanner and copier in 2004, long before computer systems shipped with Windows 7. Canon does not support the MX700 with Windows 

Drivers

·         Though Canon lists the MX700 as one of the products not supported in Windows 7, the company still provides a driver and updated software for download. The same driver that worked on XP and Windows 2000 systems can function in Windows 7. Uninstall the old driver (if already installed), disconnect your printer and then install the new software.

Software

·         In addition to updating the driver, Canon has Windows 7-versions of most of the necessary and the included software for the MX700. You should be able to overcome any problems that arise from updating the operating system on your PC by installing (or reinstalling) the Canon "Solution Menu Version 1.4.3" and "My Printer Version 2.5.0."

Upgrade from Vista

·         Canon reports one known error for the MX700 for users who have upgraded their operating system from Windows Vista to Windows 7. After the upgrade is complete, the MX700 scanning function appears to be disabled. Canon's recommendation is to remove all printer drivers and reinstall the MP version of the driver from the company's website.
